A projector shines an image onto a screen, so what you see is reflected light. That works beautifully in a dark room, but stage wash, house lights, and Arizona sunshine pouring through the lobby doors all fight the image and wash it out. An LED wall is the opposite. It is made of thousands of tiny lights that emit their own brightness, so it stays vivid even under strong stage lighting and bright rooms. This single difference drives most of the decision. Brightness and Readability

If you go the LED route, the key spec is pixel pitch, the distance in millimeters between each LED. Smaller numbers mean a finer, sharper image that you can stand closer to. A rough rule is that the minimum comfortable viewing distance in feet is about three times the pixel pitch in millimeters. A P2.6 to P2.9 wall is the sweet spot for most mid-sized sanctuaries seating 200 to 500 people, and if your front row sits 20 to 25 feet back it will look crystal clear. Larger rooms with screens mounted high and far away can use a P3.9 and save money, while a wall with speakers standing right in front of it for tight camera shots may want a finer P1.9. Getting the pitch right is a balance of viewing distance and budget, since a finer pitch costs more per square foot. Buy sharper than you need and you overspend, buy coarser than you need and lyrics look pixelated from the front rows. This is one spec worth taking time to match to your specific room rather than copying what another church bought.
Cost and Long-Term Value
Here is the honest part. A projector and screen almost always cost less up front, which makes them attractive for smaller and darker rooms or tighter budgets. An LED wall is a bigger investment, but it pays back in brightness, durability, and a lifespan measured in many years of weekly use. Projector lamps and even laser engines dim over time and eventually need service, while LED walls hold their brightness far longer. For a church planning to use the screen heavily every week, the long-term math often favors LED even though the sticker is higher.
